NCCHCA Annual Awards Nominations

NCCHCA Is Now Accepting Nominations!

Since 2002, the North Carolina Community Health Center Association (NCCHCA) has paid tribute to many outstanding leaders from North Carolina’s community health centers and partners. The achievements of those nominated demonstrate a strong commitment to promote and support patient-governed community health care organizations and the populations they serve.

We invite the staff and board of all member health centers to nominate a candidate for each of the five awards which include the prestigious Robert J. Greczyn, Jr. Community Health Center Leadership Award, an honor presented in partnership with the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Foundation that grants a prize of $25,000. The selected awardees will be recognized during the 2018 Annual Meeting and Primary Care Conference.

DEADLINE: Nominations must be received by 5:00 PM on Friday, April 27, 2018

Robert J. Greczyn, Jr. Community Health Center Leadership Award

The Robert J. Greczyn, Jr. Community Health Center Leadership Award was established by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) Foundation in partnership with the North Carolina Community Health Center Association (NCCHCA) to honor Bob Greczyn, CEO Emeritus of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina and former Chairman of the BCBSNC Foundation. It is given annually to recognize a community health center professional excelling in service to his or her fellow North Carolinians in the field of public health and primary care that grants a prize of $25,000. (New procedure in place, so please contact Patricia Hayes at 919-297-0016 or email Pat Hayes for the contact person and details!)

Dr. Evelyn D. Schmidt Outstanding Service Award

In 2002, the North Carolina Community Health Center Association (NCCHCA) established the Dr. Evelyn Schmidt Outstanding Service Award. A pioneer in social and community medicine, Dr. Schmidt, affectionately known as “Evy,” was the first Executive Director/CEO of Lincoln Community Health Center in Durham, NC, and served in that capacity for 40 years before retiring in 2011. Each year, as a tribute to Dr. Schmidt, NCCHCA honors a community-oriented organization that has improved access to care through innovative, comprehensive approaches as evidenced by outreach efforts, preventive health and educational programs, quality and efficiency of care, and/or strong community support and involvement.

Association Award

Formed in 1978 by North Carolina community health center leaders, NCCHCA thrives on the strength, dedication and excellence of our members and partners. From among them, we recognize each year an individual or organization for outstanding service to the Association, helping to envision the future and identify paths to success toward NCCHCA’s vision that: ‘Every North Carolina community will have access to a patient-centered, patient-governed, culturally competent health care home that integrates high quality medical, pharmacy, dental, vision, behavioral health, and enabling services without regard to a person’s ability to pay.”

Health Center Advocate Award

Since 1965, health centers have provided comprehensive, cost-effective, high-quality primary health care services to medically underserved communities and vulnerable populations. Unfortunately, the nearly 50-year-old success of the community health center program doesn’t guarantee its continuing existence. With its Health Center Advocate Award, NCCHCA honors an individual who consistently and passionately engages health center staff, health center board members, community groups and others in grassroots advocacy and education to promote and protect the Health Center Program in North Carolina.
